About This Service

What is ERCP?

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedure that combines endoscopy and fluoroscopic (X-ray) imaging to evaluate the bile ducts, pancreatic ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas. During the procedure, a flexible endoscope is passed through the mouth into the small intestine, where a contrast dye is injected into the bile and pancreatic ducts to obtain detailed images.

ERCP is commonly recommended for patients with gallstones in the bile duct, jaundice, bile duct obstruction, pancreatitis, bile leaks, strictures (narrowing), or tumors affecting the biliary or pancreatic system. In addition to diagnosis, ERCP allows doctors to perform treatments such as removing bile duct stones, placing stents, dilating narrowed ducts, or taking tissue samples (biopsies) during the same procedure.

Benefits
  • Examines the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts in detail
  • Detects gallstones, blockages, and ductal narrowing
  • Diagnoses pancreatic and biliary disorders accurately
  • Enables removal of bile duct stones during the procedure
  • Allows stent placement and treatment of duct obstructions
  • Supports biopsy and tissue sampling when required
  • Minimally invasive with faster recovery than surgery
  • Provides both diagnosis and treatment in a single procedure
